Viola Davis Cover Essence Magazine & Expresses Her Desire To Embrace Her Truth

"Be Beautiful, Inside and Out" - Who better to embody that message than the sublime and all-around beauty, Viola Davis? The 48-year old actress looks absolutely radiant on the October cover of Essence Magazine.
Throughout the course of her career, Viola has grown to become the face of confidence and grace. While the "Prisoner" star had many gushing over her natural curls at the Oscars, Viola encourages people to not give hair too much power.
"There's not one woman in America who does not care about her hair. But we give it way too much value. We deprive ourselves of things, we use it to destroy each other, we'll look at a child and judge a mother and her sense of motherhood by the way the child's hair looks," Davis told Essence. "I am not going to traumatize my child about her hair. I want her to love her hair."
Davis, herself, admits to knowing that self-esteem does not come easy
"My image of myself [as a youth] was in the mouths of young White kids calling me ugly and then going home to a mother who did not fully embrace her own beauty," Davis said.
Fortunately, Viola was able to overcome the negative and embrace her own inner and outer beauty. Viola also admits to gaining a boost of confidence from her 2-year old daughter, Genesis, as well.
Davis told Essence that she feels most beautiful when she is at home and her daughter says "You're the best mommy! You're amazing! You're exquisite!"
